Overview

Digital Certificates are commonly known as SSL certs where it is used in e-commerce web sites to receive sensitive data such as credit card information.

The technology itself is called Secure Socket Layer (SSL), where it creates an encrypted connection between your customer's browser to your server. This way, nobody can intercept the transactions that are sending in between the secure "tunnel". Even when intercepted, the data appeared to be rubbish or noices and it could take hundred of years to descrypt (reverse) it using today's fastest computers.

The Digital Certificates come into picture by "displaying" or "identifying" such SSL tunnel so that your customers would know who they are talking to, and feel comfortable to enter the sensitive data over the SSL tunnels.
